Building Connection, Commitment and Change

INDIA 2009 Learning Outcomes

At the end of the program participants will be able to:
• identify some core elements of community development practice, and observe how these are operationalised in the field;
• understand some practice skills associated with development goals such as participation, empowerment and capacity building;
• recognise the features of a rights-based approach to development and how it builds on other generations of development practice, such as emergency relief and locality development;
• distinguish different practice dimensions of microfinance and identify some of these in the context of different field visits;
• appreciate the importance of gender and development frameworks and articulate how these are applied in practice settings;
• respect the importance of culture, history and politics and their role in shaping development in the Indian context;
• understand the history, philosophy and practice of some complex development organisations at local, national and international levels;
• demonstrate how the learnings from the program can be applied in your local context.

The Program is not designed to train people for overseas work nor to equip people for work on development projects. What it will do is to give people an effective analysis of community mobilising and community building techniques in real life settings.
